Musical DIY

Always on the hunt for new side-projects, we came across one we loved from a blog called A Beautiful Mess. Quotes have an ability to capture an emotion, especially when it's from a special event you've lived through, memory you want to re-live everyday, or inspirational motivation you aspire to everyday. This collage allows you to choose a quote to artistically display in your home/office/what-have-you. We're going to try it.. you should too! Enjoy!

Here's how it's done: Step 1. Find a paint by number or vintage painting that you like, but not one you adore (since you'll be painting over most of the design). A damaged piece works great, or a print you aren't too crazy about or ever a duplicate piece, like mine. Steps 2-3. Supplies needed: Artwork, Letter stickers (see 3 for the exact stickers I used. I purchased them at the art section of Michaels. You can also get them at hardware stores everywhere) White paint (in hindsight I would use spray paint, just a hint!), a paint brush and scissors. Step 4. Cut out and plot out your design. I know it's an extra step to cut out each letter, but it's much easier to create nice spacing this way! Step 5. Stick stickers. Place them as perfectly or imperfectly as you fancy! Steps 6-8. Cover the entire art piece with a coat (or two) of white paint. I wish I would have used spray paint because my letters bled a tiny bit. Spray paint is preferable. Step 9. Allow your paint to dry. I layed my piece on the front porch for an hour. Next, peel the letters off carefully. Voila!

While on our NYC adventure, we visited highly raved about 'Meatball Shop' located on the lower east side (and most recently Bedford Ave in Williamsburg), for some hearty homestyle cooking. Happily full, yet craving for more, we had to hold back the desire to order thirds. Even the order process is a fun, interactive experience! All I have to say is WOW. Pub Belly Gastropub on Miami Beach is a mouth-wateringly delicious spot for dining out. Whether Tuesday night or weekend lunch, this place will leave you smiling and satisfied. Accomodating and knowledgeable staff make the small setting comfortable and cozy. We enjoyed a few savory small plates like the McBelly, Duck and Pumpkin Dumplings, Bacalaitos, Chorizo Dates.. followed by a mango creation dessert that topped off the meal perfectly. Artists crowded the space which seamlessly transitions from a coffee house during the day, to a laid-back happy hour at night. During my visit to the San Francisco, I visited the MOMA and it goes without saying that I went to the Museum Store. My favorite part of the museum shops is the books, so it was no wonder I went straight to the section and found this amazing book!

This book is filled with over 400 pages of jaw-dropping necklaces. I seemed to be more amazed every time I turned the page, so much, that I sat down on the floor and went through the whole book! Lark Books has a 500 Series collection of books that is incredible and that I hope to own in it's entirety some day. They have one for earrings, rings, glass objects, beads, etc., so many that you are going to have to check it out for yourself! I believe that gifts are something very personal, not something you randomly select to give to someone because you have to. That's usually the hard part and one of the reasons most of us end up choosing something at random that we think they might like without putting much thought into it. My problem is I end up shopping for hours and never finding something I know they would truly love. With this in mind Cecilia Gonzales Jewelry offers you a great option, her Hand-Stamped jewelry line!

I was looking for the perfect gift to give my best friend for her wedding. I knew everyone else would be sending her gifts from her registry, but seeing that we have been friends for over 20 years, I felt like mine had to be special. I went straight to Cecilia and asked her to design something for her that she could wear everyday and that reminds her of her new life she's about to begin.

Cecilia made three sterling silver bracelets woven with silk, each with personalized charms. We included her and her fiance's initials, her wedding date, and one bracelet had their dog's initial with a paw charm. When I saw the finished product, I knew she was going to love it!!

One of the great things I love about having the Studio in the heart of the Grove is the neighbors! The local restaurants, bars, coffee shops and stores not only make it cozy but provide a great variety of options when in need of a break. One of my favorite places to visit down the street is The Bookstore in the Grove, on the corner of Grand Ave. & Virginia St.

Books can provide a lot of inspiration, but I would be lying if I said that is the reason I go there so often! The truth is, they have the best coffee and bakery. Their empanadas are incredible, but their sweets are even better. All it takes to re-energize me on a long day is a 15 minute break at The Bookstore accompanied by a latte & a marble loaf. After that, I can walk back to the Studio with a big smile on my face.

Pleasant Surprise

If you live in the Grove or are ever in the area, take a walk or a slow drive around the residential area between 27th Ave. & 22nd Ave., East of US1. Besides the beautiful rows of homes, each with it's own character, this area also has some of the most beautiful flora we have.

In one of my walks I stumbled upon this beautiful tree, the Ceiba. It was such a wonderful surprise because it brought back a lot of memories from my native country, Peru. I remember visiting my family in Iquitos and being in awe of these humongous trees, towering over me more than 150 feet and making me feel like an ant!

Sometime I feel that between the hustle and bustle I forget to look around and enjoy what surrounds me, so this served as nice reminder that there is nothing like nature, to inspire you!
